Consider the Florida Press Foundation for your year-end giving

This is the time of year when many of us are considering year-end appeals from various charitable organizations. This year, we hope you will consider an organization that is very important to our industry, the Florida Press Foundation.

We are excited about the opportunities available through the foundation for helping Florida’s newspapers. The 2019 Florida Press Foundation summer internship program provided funding for Florida College students to receive paid internships at FPA member newspapers. Interns worked in all phases of newspaper production, including advertising, editorial, circulation/marketing and digital publishing.

Students throughout the state are involved in record numbers in Newspapers in the Classroom programs sponsored by the Foundation.  Instruction is being enhanced in the subjects taught in Florida schools through NIE, and in the process, future newspaper readership is being generated.

The 2019 Derek Dunn-Rankin Leadership Institute was a huge success again this year. Our mission is to provide a program that will enhance the leadership, organizational and performance skills of mid-to-upper level newspaper professionals. Applications are now being accepted for the 2020 class.

I want to thank you for considering the Foundation when you review your options for your charitable giving. Donations postmarked by December 31 may usually be deducted with that year’s tax return, (Please see your tax advisor for specific tax advice). Visit the FloridaPressFoundation.org website to donate today.

Many thanks and best wishes for the holiday season.

Sincerely,

Gerry Mulligan
President, Florida Press Foundation
