On December 2nd, the First Amendment Foundation will present a virtual discussion with Julie K. Brown and Emily Michot, regarding their work to shed light on the crimes of Jeffrey Epstein. Miami Herald investigative reporter Julie K. Brown and photojournalist Emily Michot will discuss how they discovered a secret plea deal that allowed Jeffery Epstein, a multimillionaire financial advisor, to evade prosecution for sex crimes victimizing underage girls. Brown and Michot will talk about the importance of Florida’s open records laws, their interviews with law enforcement officers and with the women who had been left without justice for years. Brown will talk about how she researched and reported the Perversion of Justice series for the Miami Herald, which shed light on the full extent of Epstein’s crimes resulting in his federal prosecution and an investigation that continues to this day.
