The 2008 Advertising Conference held in Daytona Beach last week offered training sessions that included Advantage Training presented by Dani Torano and Ivan Elias with E.W. Scripps Interactive Newspapers and The Online Street Fighter Workshop: Maximizing Multimedia Advertising Revenue with Mike Blinder of The Blinder Group. Mixed media sales opportunities and the importance of customer needs were the focus. Folks attending the conference had many positive comments citing “we all need to do a better job of packaging the true reach of our newspapers and websites within our marketplaces”. Relevance of who we are as an industry and the value we bring to our marketplaces was the message within the conference.
Dean Ridings, CEO of Florida Press and Melanie Mathewson, new VP of Advertising Florida Press presented helpful information about Florida Press programs currently in place on behalf of member newspapers and tips on working with advertising agencies during these changing times.
Greg Miller, Chief Economist from Sun Trust was the keynote speaker at Thursday’s Lunch. He offered invaluable information about the current state of the economy and where we’ll be within the next twelve to eighteen months. Mr. Miller states that if the bailout program works as it should, businesses will begin capital expenditures again by second quarter of ’09. He believes by the end of ’09, things will turn positive. Everyone in attendance hopes he’s right.
