Public Notice Alert: Future internal memos soon available for best practices in implementing HB 35

Over the last several weeks we have circulated newsletter templates for your use in discussing the basic requirements of the new public notice law changes (HB 35) and providing various questions and answers and other analysis for use in implementing the law. We hope the newsletters are helpful and that newspapers will use them to directly communicate with their local governments, clerks, and other entities that provide public notices to citizens. Latest customizable public notice newsletter available: Discussion and some Q and As on the new newspaper website notice option

We have discussed in previous newsletters the new thresholds for newspaper legal notice qualification in the new Florida public notice law, HB 35. In the next newsletter, a second major area of the bill is addressed, and this relates to newspaper website-only notification. Specifically, the bill gives “government agencies” the option to publish governmental notices solely on the website of any “newspaper in the county to which the notice pertains” and on FPA’s statewide website at floridapublicnotices.com. Local Journalism Sustainability Act (Federal law)

In June, Reps. Ann Kirkpatrick, D-Ariz., and Dan Newhouse, R-Wash., re-introduced the Local Journalism Sustainability Act for the 117th Congress, a bipartisan bill that seeks to help local newspapers sustain financial viability through tax credits.  (more…)
