Public Notice Alert: Future internal memos soon available for best practices in implementing HB 35
Over the last several weeks we have circulated newsletter templates for your use in discussing the basic requirements of the new public notice law changes (HB 35) and providing various questions and answers and other analysis for use in implementing the law. We hope the newsletters are helpful and that newspapers will use them to directly communicate with their local governments, clerks, and other entities that provide public notices to citizens. The next series of communications to our members will be in the form of memoranda that focus on best internal practices. These BPs will address several grey areas in the bill that newspapers and others carrying out its provisions may encounter. This information should be used and will be most helpful as internal guidance and not as newsletter content for public consumption.
The first BP will give guidelines on the “continual publication” of auditor/permit information required by the new law.
As we have noted previously, these BPs are suggestions and are not intended as legal advice to follow the intention of the bill language and sponsor, and to form a basis for consistent interpretation around the state.
The BPs will be posted at FPA’s Public Notice Resource page.
